Excuse my ignorance,
but i was doing some bit of thinking on how to connect the EQ to my monitors
and I got the routing figured out (it wasn't that difficult :P ). But I need a 1/4 to 1/4 cable
and i was recommended to use balanced cables. But as I see there are various types of cables and

I wanted to know if there were any differences or if they were all the same:

  • Patch cables
  • Instrument cables
  • Speaker cables

Please let me know :)

instrument cables are unbalanced 1/4 to 1/4.

Patch cables can have 1/4 ends or xlr ends and may be balanced or unbalanced.

Speaker cables are unbalanced and unshielded. most of the time, speaker cables are thicker than patch cables.

If you have powered monitors, you use a patch cable to hook it up. actual speaker cables are used between the amp and the speaker driver.
