Right now my band is borrowing a Shure beta58a microphone. At the same time I am figuring out what mics I am going to get when I get my DPS24. I've seen the the sm57 is very versitile, which is something I am going to want to test out all of my equipment. So anyways I guess I just wanted to know what the difference between the beta58a and the sm57 is. While I'm at it, whats the difference between the beta58a and the sm58?

Thanks

The beta series has a slightly brighter top end than their non-beta counterparts.

Since the SM57 and the 58 have the EXACT SAME capsule, I suspect the situation is similar for the beta 57 and beta 58 (although I don't know this for a fact.)

yes, as blue bear said, the beta series is a little brighter, and seems to be a little more detailed, with hotter output than your basic 57 or 58. they are all useful mics, and good quality for the price. also, the beta 58 is an excellent live vocal mic, with excellent feedback rejection. it's a staple in most good venues in the US.

What I would really like to do is to buy maybe 4 or 5 inexpensive mics that can fill the job till I upgrade. After upgrading I still want them to have consitent use though. What are some mics with this type of longevity?

Also I don't know if it matters. But the style of music I will be useing them to record will be a mix of various styles with grunge at the base of it all, with screaming sometimes. I just ask cause I don't want to get something thats not designed to handle that.

Thanks
