Sony DPS-V55 ... I think you can get one for $400-$500... It sounds really great.

Can we stick to verb units that WEREN'T produced with the help of dinosaurusses? Or ones that Muddy Waters used?

hmmmm wonder if you have used or owned one ???

a good mix of units is always handy to own i personally would not be knocking the pcm70 many great studios still have and use these units and id say theres a reason they are using them go figure ??

this unit was made in 86 but still to this day, some people say its probably the best reverb unit ever made!

By blow the doors off I meant: way more presets and better editability.

Not knocking ya or trying to bolster the arguement here jake, but what good are these features if the thing doesn't sound good? An Alesis Quadraverb as incredible editing and presets but I'll take a Lex over that any day of the week. The Bear's simply pointing out that with 24 bit converters instead of 20 the thing's going to sound better.

technically, the 24 bit converters should sound better, but empirically, they dont.

There are many 20 bit converters out there that blow the doors off the run of the mill 24 bit converters in many boxes.

Oh, FWIW, I think that the cheaper m-one also blows the doors of the mpx1

Just an observatin but

Blue bear wrote "you have no idea who your dealing with" or something like that anyway. Okay, so...who are we dealing with. What kind of thing is that to say and, by the way, what does it mean. Does this mean that if Blue Bear does not like what you have to say he'll look you up and punch you in the nose. Or, does it mean he will say really, really meant things and hurt your feelings. It sounds like he threw down the gantlet but I cannto imgaine what the stakes might be.

Sheesh, it was just a lame joke...
Anyway, after I've heard the 480, PCM91 and 300L, I find it hard to believe that the PCM70 will sound better, but YMMV.

I do know another cool cheap and old reverb that CAN sound amazing: Boss SE-50.

yep the 480l and the pcm91 but look at the price difference there as well unless you have a studio pulling in the bucks who can really justify one of the above units the pcm70 is a great unit and if you look hard enough you will get one for 500 bucks alot cheaper then the above units and sure the above units will have a few more bells and whistles but so they should at the price

Although you will have to find one used, the best reverb I have ever used in this price range is the Ensoniq DP Pro. I think it has one of the smoothest reverbs.

I know no one speaks much of the Roland SRV3030D but at a list price of 900.00 dropped to 279.00 i bought it and it sounds great. It has two rev engines that can be used seperately or combined. The reason the low price is probably because it generates ALOT of heat - no problem for me though - i just skip two rack spaces in an open enclosure and it works fine.

No one cares for the pcm91 or 81?

I would love to have both, or at least try them for awhile. For now they are near the bottom of my whish list.

Has anyone used TC Electronic M-300? I am looking for a unit that has good verbs but also has other effects. I did a search on it here but only see one person who really posts about it.

It's gotten good reviews but I am interested in more opinions.

Does anyone know how the TC Electronics M-One XL (or TC G-Major) reverbs compare to the TC Native Direct X plugins as far as quality, or am I comparing apples to oranges here? I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to recording and have just started making some scratch tracks and trying out different plugins like Waves, TC Native and dB Audioware.

Thanks.

Jeff

My vote would be for the PCM 81 however my experience was this. I purchased a 200 but had some trouble with it. So I brought it back. In the meantime, many on this sight recommended the 500, so I decided to exchange the 200 for the 500 however, some lame salesperson truied to convince me that there were no more 500s becuase they were discontinued. This was not true (though I am not sure now with the 550). Anyway, the point is this, though the 81 has amny more functions, sounds, etc. for the most part, the basic reverb sound of a lexicon seems pretty consistant throughout their lineup. Therefore, the way to decide which one you want (or need) is to determine exactly what you will use it for and then get the one that has the fucntions you need. For many, the 500 or 550 is all the reverb you might ever need. For others, only 91 or 81 will do and still for others, they need the 480 or the 950. As for those last two, I don't know but for the price I assume they do have different and better reverb sounds than any of the others.

Happy shopping to whomever....
