Project 49
Okay - I have spent the last few days recording tracks, and have also played around with panning, EQ, etc.... but nothing saved except for the original dry tracks. I think I'm ready to mix some of this down though. Is there a process to it?

For example, do you set the left and right values where the music starts and stops before you mix it? Do you ever EQ the whole project rather than the individual tracks?

I'm just looking for some suggestions before I get in there and screw it up.

If you did some mixing like you said, EQ, panning, etc., and then saved it, but when you opened the project again and none of those effects or work was there, it would seem that you didn't save correctly. Am i understanding that correctly?

As for mixing, the right and left locators don't do much of anything until you want to actually mixdown to a .wav file. In that case, you need to set them at the beginning and end of what you want to be exported, like you said.

I think I got it all figured out - kind of - sort of.

have a read of some of the stickies and you tube clips on mixing music
hope i'm pointing you in the right direction

I don't think there is a right direction for me anymore.... no sooner do I get the basics of recording figured out than I get this message that says my mp3 encoder is disabled. ... So, I go back to the cubase web site to see what I did wrong, but there aint' no one home to answer my questions - according to the elicenser, those components of cubase only work for a month?

There is no "contact us" link on the cubase site.... but there is a form you can fill out for hardware issues.... this is a software issue.... I'm hung up again.

it might be a pay for option. or consider exporting in a differant format eg .wav
if that's where the problem lies. then later convert to mp3 using differant software. isnt this what itunes will do (if you set up that way)

Nah - encoders and such are a part of the software. I should be able to make mp3 or wavs or whatever. The problem, as per usual, is in finding out what I'm doing wrong.

HA! Apparently encoders aren't a part of the software.

Kip - you were correct, and this "problem" won't be keeping me from making music. .... that was my fear.
