Browsing through other sites, and personally listening to the radio and watching MTV has lead me to believe, MUSIC SUCKS NOW ((R&B - Hip Hop)) I'm only speaking off

No creativity, no experimentation, nothing new, processed recycled material over brightly mixed (probably PT) music.

Dont get me wrong, THERE ARE SOME I LIKE, but the vast majority of what people think is HOT boggles my mind, I mean every 17-22 year old think just about ANYTHING & EVERYTHING is hot, long as there favorite rapper or CASUAL CHORUS CROONER sings.

ASHANTE -- not the best singer, but keeps it steady double plat.
TWEET -- hot song, but uuughh Timbaland can do this but so far
CITY HIGH's - fem singer -- looks good, but just another ASHANTE
USHER -- he got it right, music and singing - 2002 Bobby Brown
(all girl groups) -- seems like they HUM over a popular BEAT

I understand it's BUSINESS, I've made my share of money in this game the same way, but it's decerning that younger cats think PLAYING in-depth is old fashioned, and the older cats think that SAMPLING is cheating -- there has to be a happy medium, but in the hands of the CATS now --- MUSIC DOES SUCK big time,

I can honestly pick out every sample they lifted or can recall the CHORUS sung by the original person, yet CATS think it's new & hot
----damn you gotta laugh--- cause it's so pathetic.

Then again play them something intricate like: SIGN OF THE TIMES, DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, early DOOBY BROTHERS, AWB,
you would lose them and they would only hear what they could sample, not what the ART FORM is.

((just wanted to vent after reading post of people saying the same thing)) ---go head the bar is open MAKE YOUR OPINIONS-

Stop listening to mainstream music.........

Understand that everything you hear on the radio and MTV are slots that are paid for by Record Companies/producers/artists..........This game is about money and if you got it or with the people who do you can buy your way easily onto the market. I know more than a few radio Dj's that feel the same way you do, but are given a playlist and don't have a choice.

Easily said, it's done

Yeah GEC, your right, just stop listening, I guess I only listen to hear what I'm up against month after month ((which is not much))
but it's just good to hear ONE person say that they understand where I'm coming from

yeah the money game --- ((shaking my head))

It was always like this Studio....you never heard Dark Side of the Moon played on the mainstream stations back in its' heyday.
Jimi Hendrix only ever had one radio hit and that was All Along the Watchtower. The mainstream just doesn't want music that requires thinking. That's why we all meet up here.

Hey studio,

It's really not tough to compete with them musically.......IMHO I can contend with any main stream rapper and hold my own. There are a few that are extremely extrodinary (eminem) but the majority are made u stars. Check this track out I put together just to prove that anyone can make a commercial track

Sounds Good

GEC - Damn! and why isnt this on the RADIO ?

That sounds damn good man, I know, It's VERY easy to hang with these guys, it's just that - SOMEONE has to make a stand and change the STRUCTURE -- I know there are some LEADERS out there beside me.

Lt. Bob - I was listening to DARK SIDE OF THE MOON not to long ago, the fight between ANALOG & DIGITAL can never be more much of a crock after listening to that damn album --- I mean what they did in ANALOG at that time, so clear, so prestine, so so so GOOOOOOOD. But you are right, no one wants the THINK

in defense I understand MUSIC is an escapism to most, it's like reading a book, except someone else is reading it for you ((or too you for that matter)) and at no expense of your own ((beside buying it)) can you PRETEND you said it, wrote it & made it -- ESCAPE ---- but DAMN wake up people, realize MORTGAGE must be paid, CAR NOTES must be paid, FOOD must be made

REALITY can be harsh, but it is what it is: REALITY, some just cant deal with it

Which is why I still listen to vinyl when at all possible. But I have to think that those guys at that time would have come up with something wonderful on digital, analog or wirerecorder if they had to. There was this muse that had to get out, regardless of commercial applications. That's what so much of todays music lacks IMO. I am in major love with Jamiriquais' Emergency On Planet Earth right now, however so maybe there's hope. :)

i agree with all of you.......mainstream music sickens me......it really shames me that my generation are a bunch of mindless drones that have 1 sec attention spans. I always try to get my friends to listen to my music, and more than often i get a response after 15 sec into the song, "no i don't like it" I always think how the hell can you tell a song is good by only listening to it for 15 seconds?! It seems like you need a hook quick and early to catch the ears of the mainstream listeners. Seriously just turn the radio off, it's been almost 2 years since i've payed attention to the radio, and i have absolutely no regrets about my decision. =)

Whats hot?
Breast implants,a nice ass and oh yeah maybe a song to go with it.
I'm so far out of the times I will probably be back in style soon.
Only time can seperate the wheat from the chaff, there was crap music in the 60's/70's and 80's they just don't play it any more.

I know that was'nt any help but I just had to say it.

SORRY:(

ACID

ACIDROCK:
It's all good brother, I understand where you are coming from

COFFEEANDTV:
I hear you too, except being a producer in this game, I gotta listen to the competition and hear the dredgery they come up with that supposedly personify what a "HIT" is.

And to stay abreast in this game, this is my means of survival

Dont get me wrong, I create new ways to move the crowd but it is funny when I play a track to someone and in 15 sec. they like
"IT"S WEIRD, BUT COOL" maybe they could use that in a movie !

I'm like what !, but soon as some weird downsouth groove & beat is popping -- they like "OH MAN THAT'S CRAZY HOT"

((smacking my forehead)) GEEZUS

Hey, fifteen year old girls are hot but that doesn't mean I want to buy an album from them. :D

Mainstream music is very fake right now and I'm not sure when it's going to recover. Try to avoid it and move on. Great records are being made every day that will never get any type of airplay.

I'm next...

So I like them youngsters too doc. Should I get into mainstream now?

Hey??? You aren't doc!!

REALITY can be harsh, but it is what it is: REALITY, some just cant deal with it

I guess to a degree the above was my life story for many years.

I grew up in Sydney Australia as a kid in the late 70,s i listened to most of what other kids listened too on am radio stations on little transistor radios.

I didnt think about it all much at the time but as time went on i learnt more about what i liked Guitars and drums were still the number 1 way to do stuff and back then digital was something your wore on your hand :) it went from red led to grey liquid crystal and didnt we all think that was grand ahhh the simple times.

As i got older i became more curious about Radio and how it all worked but in my own mind i thought some one could just get out there and make a change but in reality they play from their playlists and are told what to play that to me aint music or being creative somewhere along the line the taste makers killed creativity set it in stone that no one was going to have the freedom to express in anyway the masses could see or hear it all in fear of guarding their own markets.

You know even in Australia this same thing happened with music
I was an still am to a degree an avid supporter of live music i was always in the front row of bars and pubs in Australia watching the great unheard off bands play always something different always something intresting and in alot of ways stuff that many would never hear.

Sometimes music can reach the mass in time after its moment has all but gone as well .

Look at BIGSTARS master contributions hardly were played or known in their days but those first few Albums recorded at Ardent in Memphis went on to inspire so many real pop Artists the sheer magic that Chris Bell (R. I. P.) and Alex Chillton left went on to move many of the minds that actually became famous but how many know or even remember that

RADIO CITY AND RECORD NO1 Will always be amoung my favourite musical moments.

Its hard to know whats right and wrong whats good and bad i always said let music be music but money came and stuffed all that up.

In the age where video cameras are so available and ways of making music clips were so much easier now we all could have been heard if the tv and radio would just play music as it came in no matter what it was the public would make its mind up on what it wanted without any taste makers required

yes it all sounds a little messy but it would have been a truer indication of what a top 40 or top 100 could be like if your stuff is loved it will sell and then the intrest generated could move an artist of bottom rung

As we age and it gets harder for us to find what we like the same happens to us all even the young ones now will get old and the same will happen to them as it is happening to us now.

I Will always have a love for Guitar / drum based music simple but sweet thats where its at for me.

musical genius never had to be complicated or complex and sometimes leaving it all alone and discovering it alone can be where its at in someways im glad my record collection wasnt so known in 20 years again those tracks will still burn my mind and stir my soul fresh and still undicovered by the mass I,ll never grow tired of hearing what cant be killed by the tastemakers wallets.

ahhhhh enough from me im rambling now

The stuff is still out there its just you got to look a little harder and wait a little longer for it all now it just aint on every street corner no more but it is out there have faith its not all gone yet

miss the bands

I miss the music, the bands, i miss that sound.
I'm a trombone/trumpet player (at the beginig) I come from playing p-funk, Earth Wind and Fire, confunction, tower of power ect.
Cats and music like that are not around like it used to be.
I'm saying all that to say, you don't see kid's learning to play instruments anymore. I see alot of drumachines being purchashed software for your computer and effects proccesors.

What happened to the creativit !!! It's a damn shame, you don't even see " concert bands" in your local schools the way you used too. Yeah , I know times have changed, I grew-up as a kid in the 70's i'm proud of that. I'm also proud of my music teacher for teaching me how to counts " BARS-N-BEATS" "MEASUREMNTS-OF-MUSIC"

It all boils down to the basic's.

" MUSIC IS NOT FOR SALE " I know you guy's are laughing at me know right ;-) But I honestly think that the true musician is still out there, he or she just needs to continue to keep plugging away.

All this " COMMERCIAL MAINSTREAM COMPUTER PROCCESSED MUSIC" will not have the " STAYING POWER" of the real music we grew-up on.

I'LL KEEP MY HOPES UP, AND I'LL CONTINUE TO PLAY MY AXE !!!

PEACE

Your not alone fellas

As being the starter of this thread

"You guys are not alone in your views & opinions" no one is laughing at no one here.

It will make it's way back around again, and soon they will hear what CLASSICS are made of, wow! there aren't even any classics from the music now

There's some good stuff out there - out of 'mainstream' so to speak, but the media monster/culture never let's you forget (if the dumbed down masses dig it - you can't escape....like....Clockwork Orange). And if you don't believe the 'dumbing down' part - just watch what passes for "the news" these days...we see what's MADE, not what's reported - - in my opinion kind of crosses over to music -- bunch of force fed drones.

God, I'm old.

you have to really understand how this business really works. msstudio your ? why isn't that song on the radio? Is the same reason ever great artist in underground music isn't heard....MONEY....

Commercial Radio works like this:

You pay an indie promoter 1500-2000 per add to a list of stations they work with. Thats per add...not play....just cuz your added doesn't mean you'll get rotation. So if the promoter your working with has 50 stations in your genre and is able to get 25 of them to add your single....do the math 50g's for 25 stations....The average indie artist does not have that capital.

Major labels do and pay for these slots.....You don't think the music you hear on the radio is picked cuz its good? Their paid slots by major labels......This next statement is very important for all of you to comprehend:

A commercial radio station is not in the business of music, their in the advertising business. A radio station makes income from advertisers based on listener peaks...80% of the advertisers are from there broadcast area.....There goal is to get these local businesses to advertise with them. The second portion of their money comes from indie promoter payoffs in the form of promotional money....but its really just a shady kickback for adding a song to there playlist......

alright I'm done

The only time I listen to the radio is when Imus is on. Even the classic rock stations are fixed playlists. It sounds like they have 12 greatest hits albums in their inventory. The biggest problem is that no "name" has come along since Frank Zappa passed to show the record companies and media corporations for what they really are. Even when Frank was with us who was listening?
