They are sweet sounding amps. I had five of em in my med. sized PA back in the day....two of the 400's and one of the 700's went DC at various times....EVERY stinking time they got enough signal through the fuses before they blew to melt voice coils. The 700 created a flame of about 3 feet out of the sub cabinet it was hooked up to. The slag created by these little things can be quite spectacular. Changed EVERY one of em to either a David Hafler or a BGW. Kept a 400 for years as a nice stereo amp. One of the wives claimed it as a community property item........hmmmmm...

Love the tone. Hate the maintainence. Great for the home stereo though.

I've seen only a couple of those Dual 500's in my whole life. Probably not a lot of em ever built. The ones I did see in use were in a seriously bone crushing PA on the subs. Kik drum would make you ill.

I could get my HPM 100s fixed, get this thing looked at and refurbished... nah!! Nobody does that kind of work around here

Early 80's....I walk in this bar that wasnt any bigger than a couple hundred people, I think it was up in Washington State....Anyway, I have to walk past the right-side stack and the band is on break. The break music is on but kinda purring along, not really denting anyones beer glasses. Being a gear-slut I notice that they've got older EV Pro stuff stacked on top of a pair of MARTIN subs and a bunch of JBL horns complete with cheese cutters and bullets on top. Just for fun I look at the rack peaking out behind this rig and theres a couple of power boxes with the pair of 500b's in the bottom of one and a crapload of early Carvins for everything else. Bi-amped wedges and the works. THIS is a four hour PA load in for this dinky little beer haus. I go get a beer and the portable service is just behind the bar and these guys are sitting on 60 to 80 amps of lights and shit.

The band starts. I drop my beer. Its not as loud as you'd think but it is BIG. Yamaha PM2000 on the FOH and an old old Hill on the monitors, onstage! Same old rocking hair band stuff and the band was okay...All pro's making a bit of scratch.

But I'll never forget that frickin PA.

MARTIN subs in a 200 seat beer hall.
