whats a good size woofer? tweeter?

can you get some decent mixes off of those monitor speakers that have a 5.25'' or 6.5'' woofer? this is probably the wrong association but the 6.5" speakers in my car dont sound too bad.... my Plan A is to buy the event 20/20 passives and a samson 120 power amp with headphone jack for monitoring....Plan B would be to find a cheaper pair of monitors that are active so as to afford a samson C control and better set of headphones. if 6.5 woofers arent too bad which ones would you suggest under 300?

the size of a speaker means little in relationship to the implementation of the driver. Im using a pair of PMC TB2's for monitoring, which are fairly flat down to about 40Hz. they only have a 6 driver, but they are a semi-transmission line speaker, which gives them extra extension.
I was listening to a pair of ELAC jets last night, which got some tremendous depth from a 6.5 inch driver. they also had phenomonal top end extension (claimed upto 35Khz), using a folded ribbon tweeter.
Its not the driver size, but the way the speaker is put together.
