It's been a while since I've been into recording, but I'm looking to get back into the game and I was wondering if you all could offer up some adivice.

I'm looking to get the ball rolling with a relatively inexpensive set-up (Nothing over $1,000).

At the moment, I have a Roland PC-70 Midi Keyboard Controller. I'm looking to purchase an M-Audio sound card... either the Delta 1010LT or Audiophile 2496.

Eventually, I plan on adding guitars and mics into the mix...

Now, with this set-up, I'm assuming I'll need a mixer. I looked at the Behringer BCF2000 B-Control Fader for the Roland Keyboard. With this fader, would I be able to hook up a guitar, mics, etc, or would I need a separate mixer; like a Behringer?

I am running Windows XP on my computer, have a USB and Firewire card, running on approx. 750 megs of ram, and I plan on using either Sonar or Cakewalk (whichever is the most newbie-friendly) to record.

What would you all recommend for my set-up?

I'm sure I've left out a few important details. At any rate, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

How many input channels do you need?

You could look at some firewire units like the Presonus Firepod. $600 & it's got 8 preamps so you don't need a mixer. They also do cheaper f/w units if you don't need so many inputs.

I'd stay away from the Behringer gear. Get something you'll want to keep for a while

Presonus Firepod

Bulls Hit... Looks like this is what I'm looking for. Thanks.

Cakewalk makes Sonar.

Get more RAM, it's cheap. Fill that mobo right up.
