Ok the sad story begins. I recorded this song a few years back at least. I was not very good but got alot of help. Fast forward>>>>>>>. My hard drive goes up in flames! I pull out the back up cd and pop it in... It's blank! Oh what was I drinking? It had everything written on it but, nothing was recorded on it. Soooooo.

This is the best stereo version I could find of the song. I am wondering???? Do you think I can make this a little better with multiband compression or some panning twards mono? Or do I need to break down and re-record it?

The song is "the coffin song" Read the lyrics if you get a chance.

Cast your vote. Re-record (and torcher FS) or fix the stereo mix ???

Hit "The Coffin Song"

I'm not much use to you - I've been in the same boat but with 4 track tapes - all I could do was add to the stereo mix with sundry percussion & extra gtr etc. That may do it for you. I know nought about multiband compression etc. Sorry.
Give resurrection a burl & if it fails re-record.
Can't hurt eh?
Oh, good story, good song. Would fit on a Dead Man's Curve compilation well.

Thanks Rayc.

I have had some say it's fine. How about you tell me what you think of the mix and I can try to see if it is something I can improve with eq, compression, etc. And I'll fling it back out.

Anyone who wants to give it a shot feel free.

Thanks

Dave

I don't think it sounds that bad at all...Try dinking with some compression, and some eq if you want something different, just keep the original backed up and safe... :D

But it's got a nice, simple sound, and is pretty clean. I wouldn't be unhappy with it....

Why Thanks Dogman! I had it pretty wrapped up 5 years ago then thinks blew up on me. If I was recording it now I would do thinks a little different.
I would have taken a larger cutt of low end out of the vocals than I did.

But if enough people think it flys I may leave it. I might try some eqing off on the lower end of the whole mix you about 100 hz or mess with some around 250.

I will waite so see what more people say and it may get left alone?

Thanks for the input.

I had a listen and you are right...it isn't what one would think!! I also read the lyrics. You do share different thoughts on something we all will experience :D
I thought it quite amazing that you wrote a song with the perspective you have, rather than the old cliches' of ...when I am dead and gone...when you are dead and gone...when I am in heaven....when you are an angel.... But no, you take it directly to the coffin. I am now wondering, what kind of mind travels those kinds of thought journeys. You have a very interesting think processor on your shoulders. ;)

I have been listening, but at a very low volume. Tomarrow I will listen louder.

I know right off the bat, that the vocal and back ups are right on spot!!

I dig the way you start out...no intro. I like the way you end it too...no outro...a rather fast fade..kinda like you have more to say, but aren't sure what yet. It seems to fit the whole concept of the song. Abruptly you both died, but are obviously still on a journey....

Nice country flavour. Your voice is great.

The only thing I can hear differently, is perhaps some fiddle for that added drama. But I am a drama queen!! :D

It is a good song and you definately don't need to rerecord....unless ya want to!! :)

Well.... It don't get much better than that.
Thank you.

I have shown this song to many and some of them snicker about the "coffin lines". Of course I am usually saying.."see this is why we will never make it big" :D.

Any way I am glad that you appritiate my bluntness:) I personaly am very proud of that song. It would not be a stretch to say it has brought tears to my eyes. You can't escape the message unless you choose to ignore it.

Well I must go.

Once again thanks.
You made my day.

Oh ya! as for the whole fiddle thing, If you want to lay some on it feel free. I'd love to hear it. I personaly lack the fiddle gene;) I am working on wipping out the horn once in a while though.

You are ever welkom!! Believe me, you don't want me to lay em' down. I have one, but that doesn't mean I can play it. It only means I have a bad bad case of GASsssssss  :D I bet DavidK would do it. He is an excellent 'arm to chin' axe player. :D

What kind of horn do you play...sax?

I am glad I helped to make your day. Now you and brandrum have made mine!! :) :) :) :)
