What would be a comparable guitar to this?

Well, Im mainly a drummer, but I like to play guitar every once in a while. Mainly getting it for songs I write to record with. Heres a short clip of a song I did, maybe itll give you and idea of my style.

Id like to be able to play some punk/metal stuff too, like The Melvins. Im pretty sure their guitarist used a LP, so I think Id be able to get that type of sound from a knock off.

THen i'd say go Tradition, or Epi..thats what i'd do..those traditions look sick.

There's a dealer link on their website, which is why I posted the link to their website in my post.

They're not just sold on Ebay, Tradition guitars are actually sold at guitar shops, unlike the Agile's and X's. That right there should tell you something.... they're not afraid to let you try 'em before you buy 'em.

Agile and X guitars are more cosmetic flash than true "players" guitars. If you want eye-candy, get one of those. If you want a real nice player that sounds killer, get a Tradition.

There's a reason why everybody has to swap out the pickups and pots on Agile, SX and X guitars... because tone-wise, they pretty much suck. You won't have to swap anything on a Tradition, it's good to go right off the bat.

My guess is that you'll opt for the cheap eye-candy and you'll be Ebay'ing that same guitar within a year.

i love the way my xaviere plays and feels...

i also decided to get it over an epi or an agile because of the fact that it is a thinline.

also the gfs pickups already installed are excellent.

edit: also agile and xaviere are not sold in stores to keep their prices down.

period.

well, I think I found a deal on a Tradition. $250 plus shipping. Comes with a hardshell case.

Will do.

Now, for another question since you guys were so helpful :)

What do you think of this amp?

Again, I will basically only be using it for recording, so I dont think the small size should matter. Actually, seems kinda nice since Ill be able to crank it and get that nice tube break up sound with out pissing my neighbors off (more..) lol.

i've played through this amp, and its nice for bluesy stuff, but it still has that box sound of the 8" speaker. i would look into something with a larger speaker. maybe one of those valve jr stacks or blackheart ones?

Well, I definately am not going to be playing blues, not a fan...

Im intrigued by that black heart one. I like that it has the bass, mid, and treble controls.

Has anyone played this one? What kind of tones will I be able to get out of it?

Thanks so much everyone...

I've heard that, too... but I'm still not convinced, since reviews are spotty and inconsistant and there's too many questions about quality control issues for these brands.

Therefore, I'm going to let you guys in on a little secret and save the original poster some time, money and trouble.

Tradition S20

I played one of these about 6 months ago and it was hands down the best import LP copy I've played in years. They're on par with Ibanez Les Pauls from the late 70's that actually blew away the Norlin-made Gibsons at that time... I kid you not!

If you don't believe me, check the reviews and read carefully how much these LP copies are praised with glowing reviews, especially about the tone and build quality....

There's one on EvilBay right now for $299.

Dude, seriously.... Tradition S20

Buck, have you played any of their other models?...ive been itching for a Tele copy.....

ya, its final now. Purchased. It wasnt a buy it now, but I sent him a message offering him $250 and he didnt hesitate. Shoulda went for $225 :D , I know Im greedy...

friggen $40 for shipping though... Im too used to musiciansfriends free shipping.

came in today, sounds and plays awesome!

Only two things Ive noticed so far is:

1. Pick-up selector switch broke off during shipping.
2. High e string seems to slip off the neck and get caught easily.

Are you talking about that little plastic piece?

That's an easy fix... like only 2 bucks for a new one.

Where does the E string get caught???

Perhaps it's just your playing style and pulling on it.

Glad you like it.... I knew you would!!!

no, the metal that the plastic is on broke. Still, guy said he'd pay for it, so its cool.

and the local guitar shop luthier said the frets stuck out a bit too far, so hes gonna file em down.
