So I finally bought some 457 for my r8 from zzounds, and just realized the r8 doesn't have nab hubs or whatever you call them on the machine. I know the 457 will have nab hubs, and was wondering what is better: to get an adapter to put on the r8 I'm using, or to use the ones on my other machine. I took off the hub thingies (as you can see, I'm quite sharp with my reel vocab  ) off my other machine and put them on the r8, and seemed to be ok, but when I played the r8 with them on, they wobbles VERY slightly. So if you have the slightest idea what I'm talking about, are all hub adapters the same? It would seem like the ones on my other machine should work fine, but perhaps not; I can't test it yet.

Have you ever put any tape on it before?

7" 457 has a standard small center hole.

Are you saying you don't have any reel retainers to hold the reels against the reel tables?

I think the point is he got the wrong reel of 457.

Apparently he got a 10.5"/3600' reel, not a 7"/1800' reel. (Oops!)

The R8 takes 7" reels! I don't think you can adapt it to 10.5" reels. The Fostex E8 is the 1/4"- 8-track that takes the 10.5" reels. ;)

Oh... that would be bad.

antispatula, all you need are the stock retainers that screw down and hold the 7" reels in place.
