What will happen if I drop an iTunes track into Reaper?

Son of Yoda
I could just try it but nowhere near the recording PC for a while.

My problem is I'm heartily sick of dealing with iTunes authorisation protocols, I've just migrated to a new general PC and iTunes has decided the computer isn't authorised (it is!) and has ripped the 43 tunes I've actually bought from iTunes over the years off the iPod, and the thought of search the Crapple database for a solution fills me with dread.

So I'm thinking, you know, why don't I just import them into Reaper, reconvert them as un-DRM MP3s and solve the problem forever...

I'm guess it won't work however, that the DRM will stop me.

Any clues? Don't want to spend a bunch of time finding the tracks, moving them to the recording PC etc. if it's not going to work.

Cheers

I thought apple had dropped DRM some time ago?

What's the file format? I'm sure a quick search through the Reaper knowledge base (i.e. the forums) will tell you if that'll work. :D

Perhaps they have... not sure on the format... I'll be home in a couple of hours so I'll have a stab at one and see how I go... if not, then I guess I'll have to work it out via Apple.

Cheers

This sounds like the long way home, but Amazon uses DRM, but it allows you rip it to CD. So, I ripped the song to CD, then converted it back to either a wave or MP3 (not sure which). If you can do this, the DRM will not carry through the CD creation process.

In the end it turned out I had two apple accounts, so I worked out the password for the second one and it unlocked them. Only one pc authorisation left, however.

I tried it in Reaper / Audacity but the file was "encrypted" (they're pretty old...) and so no dice. I guess I'll worry about it in 10 yearrs time when I've used my 5th PC up... :thumbs up:

Thanks guys
