Just curious. What was the song you first learned to play on guitar/bass?

Mine was AC/DC's "TNT"

My room mate taught me a long fingerpicking thing with lots of hammer-ons and pull-offs. It was in D and used a lot of dominant 7ths. I played it over and over for about a year. People would get up and leave when they saw me pick up the guitar....

12 bar blues and House Of The Rising Sun. Yea, I am an old timer.

House of the Rising Sun was mine too. It must have been about 1968ish. Next was Gloria. That was all I can remember our garage band knew how to play!

First song I "learned" on guitar = "Raunchy" (Bill Justis). First song I learned on bass = "My Sharona" (The Knack). I just pick things out, as I go along...I've never really "learned" to play guitar or bass, although tabalture books are somewhat useful.

I just realized...12 bar blues can be heard in two currently running TV commercials. The commercials for Vonage, and then one of the Chevrolet Cobalt commercials features The Yardbirds' "Over Under Sideways Down" (12 bar blues bass line).

You mean, like a real song on the electric? Because I guess the first song would have been Cracklin' Rosie. Yeah, I know. But once I discovered rock, and got an electric, the first real song would have been...well, I guess it was probably an Eagles song, but the song that I consider the first real song that I learned that started me on my way was Move it On Over. God Bless George Thorogood. My first guitar hero :D

Along with 10,675,413 other guitarists, it was "Smoke on the Water" and then "Iron Man".

I forget when it was that I learned "Smoke on the Water," but I accidentally learned "Iron Man" when I made a goof while playing "Smoke on the Water." But, that's what happens when one is self taught, I s'ppose. :P

i guess I'm going to throw my "youngin' " self in on this one. Smells like Teen Spirit from nirvana. and I'm 24 and not a big fan of led zeplin

"House of the Rising Sun" on a big ole Harmony Sovereign in '74 at Ithaca College. Still have the guitar and can still play the tune.

Heart- Crazy on you

A buddy showed it to me on the front steps of his house 30 years ago. I was hooked after that. We had no tab , no internet, just our ears and watching other more experienced players. Man what a gift, thanks Andy.
