I dont know if this is the place to ask, but here it goes...
I own a gdec30 from fender and a pa system that I run it through. The midi files I play are downloaded from the internet either for free or I buy, the difference in quality I am still trying to understand as I know that midi is basically the score and the synth in the gdec gives me my "sounds".

I have been asked to preform on stage at a local bar and I am a little reluctant because I feel that my sound quality could be better. So I guess what Im asking is.. If I let the gdec go, what would be the equipment I would need to get the midi files to sound as good as they possibly can, maybe through a laptop and mix my guitar with the backing track through another channel for the best live sound I can get?

Please help me, I am so confused and frustrated. I want to do this but not if its going to sound like crap.

Thanks in advance

I would say start hunting around for a better GM (general midi) sound module

so you dont have a general midi keyboard?

what program's are you using (if any) on your computer?

what kind of music are you playing?,
what kind of midi sound s are you looking for?

first I would uprgade too a preamp interface, maybe something with a couple inputs for your guitar, mic, and midi. then you could bypass the amp strait into the pa.

as for the quallity in midi depending on your music style.

heres a decent program, has some great sounds

theres like 9 downloads only take an hour or so to download, has some electric pianos, Synthesisers, Appregatos, Drums, Bass, etc, pretty good for free.

I use the M-Audio UNO midi/usb interface to connect the Gdec30 to the computer the software is a Jammer program that came with the purchase of the Gdec30 for free. There is a synth in the Gdec30 that has fairly good sounds, great sounds if you are using headphones but when I plug it in to my pa system it sounds crappy. I want to be able to buy midi files and download them to my computer and play them via a sequencer, I guess:confused: through a sound module I guess:confused: and then through my Pa or the bars Pa and have a great sound and good mix while I'm playing my guitar. Oh yea Ground control, I play and sing mostly classic rock.
Thank you for discussing this with me I really appreiciate it.

If it sounds fine through headpones but crappy through the pa it would seem that the pa is either crappy or needs to be tweaked. A real common problem with pa's is that cheap ones use $5 peizo tweeters that are loud and cheap but don't sound very good. They might be passable for vocals only in a loud roudy bar but you try and put MIDI tracks or a CD through them and they won't cut it. So there's got to be a compromise as far as what to take to gigs. The smallest 1 pc thing I've found is the Behringer KX1200. It has a 15", 5" and horn. It doesn't have effects tho, it's mono and it's discontinued... and pig to haul around. For MIDI playback you need something that has a good low end, good mids and good highs... like a good home stereo. The exact opposite of a typical 12" speaker guitar amp. Roland makes some small stuff although it's pricey.

It's really nice to run stereo at gigs, although most people will try to tell you it doesn't matter. Mono can be an ugly sound that everything gets lost in... it just isn't as pleasant as stereo.

If the whole problem is that they sound good except through the pa I'd start with tweaking the pa.

How are you connecting to the PA from your amp?, is it with an XLR cable

maybe its how your connected to the pa thats the problem. is there like a stereo out on the amp

does it have S/PDIF output
