I don't know... I've had a Les Paul Custom since... 1991 or so? And its got a few battle scars from the early days that haven't spread at all. I don't know if the finish will chip any further- just because mine hasn't doesn't mean yours won't.... but mine hasn't. None were right by the edge, though... Maybe take it to a luthier (guitar builder/tech- a GOOD one!) and see what they say?
Of course, I was 15 or 16 when the worst stuff happened and the internet wasn't even availible then. I didn't know what to do, didn't know who to ask, and so did nothing. Hasn't been a problem.
Sorry to hear about the nasty knock on the guitar, though.
its not the chip thats the proble i could care less about that its not visible (this is my main performance guitar) i just want to make sure that it wont spread to the front, allthough my strap tore during a stevie ray vaughn song... so ironic maybe it was ment to be..\
thanks for the tips i decided to just put some nail polish on to stop it from spreading
