What to do about speakers/monitors ?

Hello all.

I have now found the right pc to record my music on and a friend is going to add a M-Audio Delta 44 soundcard to the pc.

My question is - What should i do about speakers/monitors ?

1, buy a pair of stereo speakers and a stereo amp ?
2, can i buy mointors that will plug into the pc/soundcard so i dont need a amp ?
3, buy mointors with built in amp and connect to pc or soundcard ?

Budget for monitors around £100 / £120.

Can anyone help please ?

I just picked up a pair of KRK Rokkit 5's this weekend for $150 at guitar center. Seemed like a good deal and I don't have any monitors except crappy pc speakers now. For the price I couldn't go wrong. They aren't the best on the low end but I'm on a strict budget. These are powered speakers and are working great so far.

Your monitors (coupled with the space they're in) are the single most important equipment you will ever own. You will only ever be as good as your monitoring allows you to be.

Save more first - Buy cheap, buy over and over and over again.

Can anyone give me a idea of how much i should spend on monitors and what sort i should buy ?

I have been looking on the internet for monitors and i have found some behringer MS20 Digital Monitor (20 Watts).

Would these do the job and do they go direct input to the sound card or pc without me using a amp ?

I paid twice that for mine and I say they are the best on the 'low end'. They're non-fatiguing, accurate and best of all give me transportable mixes that sound as good in the car as they do on the big speakers at the studio where I work.

Just because you got them at a bargain price doesn't mean they are an inferior product.
