what to adjust on the 1680 first for levels?

whats more important to adjust to get your levels to the right number (I believe 12 or 0 db)

Im guessing set everything at zero, and then mess with the input knobs so raise your levels if needed?

Is there any other levels or concerns that I could adjust to get that levels higher?

I raised the amp volume but it seems like the levels would be the same on teh 1680, maybe its just me though?

Place the desired channel to "input" mode, plug mic/line into channel, apply phantom power if needed, adjust gain level...
