Well, that list explains a lot to me, LOL. I couldn't disagree more.

5. doubled vocal singing the same melody is very hard to pull off without negative feedback. - since the day Kramer told me how to do this, I've never gotten any complaints, but that's probably because I'm uniquely gifted. Or maybe it's the autotune. Either way, no. 5 is totally off base again.
6. vocals usually need to be more up front than you think. - Nobody in my history here has EVER told me to turn my vocal up. That's probably because of the unique and perfect limiting characteristics of autotune.
7. everyone wants to own a taylor guitar - I own one, and my daughter owns one, and I hate them both. thin sounding mushy fluff guitars. Gimme' Martin or gimme' death.
8. i still don't know what 'shredding' means but it's either good or bad. - shredding is good, unless you do it in the middle of one of Jamal's songs...then it just sounds oddly out of place.

I've tracked vocals with a demo'd "C-1" for my last couple of tunes, and the freaking sibilance is taking my head off, and I cannot believe nobody has mentioned it. And my last post has like 40 replies, but the song has only been spun 3 times according to my NWR stats.

It's good to mistakenly guess that 1) A Fender cab guitar sound was a Marshall 2) A Mesa amp sound was a VOX AC30 3) a strat was a Les... I could go on and on, or just have SLuiCe fill in the rest.
Honestly, I love good music -- so I try to make some. I get plenty of downloads, and all I gotta do is give people my 97% wrong opinion.

There are so many reasons I love the clinic.
First of all, I honestly enjoy a lot of the music I hear here more than most of what's in the charts. It's less over-produced, less predictable, less comercial. These are all good things.
I listen to loads of stuff I'd never normally hear because it's "not my kind of stuff" - it's really refreshing to listen to a genre you don't enjoy, just to comment on the recording, the performance and the writing. It helps me focus away from just "I don't like this".
I learn so much just from listening to what other folk do.
I've had absolutely fantastic help from folk responding to my own stuff - everything from just "I like your tune" (which is so nice to hear) to pointing out really obvious things that I really should have noticed myself (like the bass is FAR TOO LOUD) to really detailed mix comments, many of which I need a glossary to even understand.
I think it's such a privilege to have somewhere folk will not just listen to your music, but will take the time to post comments on how to improve it.
I always do several mixes, and I try to use as many suggestions as possible. I'm still amazed by what a difference small changes can make.
There's no point in naming all the cool folk on the board - there really are so many.
I have about 200 MP3's from the clinic that I keep and listen to more or less frequently. Some stuff I listen to *a lot* (Erland, Macle, chrisharris, Monkeyfeet!).
This is just such a brilliant place. I don't spend as much time as I'd like to here (what with real life and all that) but every time I pop in I totally love it. I'm getting all mushy now, so I'd better stop.
