What strings do you recommend for...

I've got three archtops and use three different setups. The Gibson ES 150D uses Elixer medium lights (11's) with very low action and feels a bit more comfortable than when I had 10's on it. The '42 L-50 uses regular old Martin bronze acoustic lights and for the Eastman 810CE after many sets of strings seeking an acoustic/amplified compromise, finally settled on Elixer electric mediums (12-52).

Overall, I just don't think archtops bode well with lighter strings and that you need to get the body vibrating some to get those overtones coming in.

I have yet to try this myself, but some string/vintage gurus swear that a pure nickel wound string sounds better than a stainless or nickel-plated.

There are several pure nickels available, but you have to be sure you're not buying a nickel-plated.

I think it is explained as a electromagnetic flux effect of somekind but its likely snake-oil.

I want to taste test this claim myself...

Thanks everyone for suggestions...

I asked for recommendations on strings because I think that they make difference, at least for acoustic guitars. Since I don't know much about electrics I preferred to count on your experience.

I am a GHS man. Boomers on my electrics and Phosphour Bronze on my acoustics. I love 'em.

I stick mainly with GHS Boomers 8s and 9s on my strat and 10s on my Ibanez. I've got a set of Elixir 8s on my Duo-Sonic, I really like Elixir for some mid-range/high funk. Back in the mid 90s, I signed up at a local shop and Elixir sent me a promo pack with some Cryogenic 7s, they were sweet sounding, but broke like crazy if you played very hard, I'd <3 to find me another set, they were fun to play around with.

Somebody around here makes sense! GHS Boomers and Martin SP phosphor bronze. Both are damn good strings.

I can't keep my guitar in tune for crap with anything less than 10's on electric.
