Do yourself a big favor & pick up the Korg OASYS PCI card. The sounds are crystal clear & absolutely beautiful. It's a complete DSP system (with 5 onboard Motorola processors) which completely frees up your PC's CPU. it's also built around an open architecture stystem, so as new sounds are written, they'll become available for download at the Korg site or on CD. It's GM compliant (except for the drum maps/you'll have to transpose.) But that's easy in most DAW systems; & well worth the effort considering how fantastic the drum sounds are. It doesn't load as a plug-in, but rather opens as a side-by-side program with great interfacing & understandable routing; & is easily configured with & integrated into most DAW's. You can pick one up on sale for $299 at any Guitar Center; & check out the following links for info & specs:
1010LT for about a month now, and it appears to be a bargain so far. Not sure how much I like the preamps, but there's more inputs than I could possibly need, and they sound great -- balanced or not balanced. A/D conversion rocks. A+
