I dont want to start bouncing within the mixes but it looks like Im going to have to, nor do I want to fork out for another PC as I just bought this 2 years ago....

Computers and parts are evolving at a rediculous speed nowadays.

I use an Intel Core 2 Duo at 3,16 Ghz and 4Gb ram (only 3 or so works in XP) with an MOTU 8Pre interface. Works for most applications. In fact, running several synths at the same time never caused me any trouble. I used to be an AMD guy, but i realize now that paying the extra cash for an Intel processor is worth the money.

Oh, and i use Reaper.

I'm running twin core 2 quad 975s overclocked to 4 Ghz, 128 GB SSD for OS and apps and a pair of velociraptors, one for recording and one for samples.

I doubt I'd ever be able to max it out but once i9 cpus are available I'll be building a twin i9 rig not because I need one but because I'm a total computer slut and I NEEEEED one :o

Just got my new comp a few weeks ago, Intel i7 3.2-3 ghz (cant remember exactly) 8gb Ram 1.5t Hard Drive. My new work horse and will be for the next few years. :).

I am going to stick to mine for now until I can afford to upgrade my soundcard and UAD-1 with UAD2. My soundcard's manufacturer no longer exists so no drivers for anything other than XP SP2, and I don't want to spend money on anything less than those RME jobbies.

Also, it is becoming more and more difficult to find motherboards with regular old PCI slots, so I'll need to upgrade to UAD2. I really would like to be able to upgrade to Windoze 7-64bit so I can use more than 4 GB. At times I run out of memory before I run out of CPU when using too many Kontakt stuff.

I don't plan on updating mine for a while. My next purchase is a laptop.

Just for fun, I just tried to max out my CPU using a violin track downloaded from the Telefunken website. Here's what I ended up with.

At 256 buffer:
20 tracks at 75% CPU played nicely.

21 tracks at about 83% when it started crackling and popping.

All of the tracks had a compressor, delay, reverb, chorus, and gate.

I have a sony viio netbook and it runs ableton fine, in fact i can get quite a bit going on it with its 1.33 dual...surprisingly fast...its just to fucking small too see anything! :D

I mean, seriously you think that would be enough...I still have a couple of laptops of old...one that cost me 1500 pounds (UK) it takes about three days to power up!
