what should i set it on

I have a soundblaster audigy sound card and i was wondering should i set the line in recording volume on my windows mixer to 0db so that way i leave the volume of my recordings up to my preamp settings? i noticed when the volume is at 0db (no gain or decrease) the recording are real real low. so basically i wanna which volume should i increase........the volume of the line in on my sound card or the volume of my mixer for louder recordings. which way will produce less noise? thanks

The SB's volume is only going to affect the *digitized* signal - So essentially, it shouldn't even be in the loop.

However, it may be... And that's not a good thing.

Until you can get rid of it forever (which should be ASAP), you'd really need to run a calibration tone into it to find out what the "ideal" setting should be.
