I guess if you have the money go for the UA LA but that's just my opinion.
Wait to see what others have to say.

ok thanks i sing country i just wana get the right pre are channel strip

For country, of the units you mentioned I'd go with the UA-LA. You'll have a really nice preamp and a really nice compressor in one.

The Grace is a nice unit but it does not have a compressor and it's has very sterile sound to it. (Perfect for somethings) The UA will probably be more what you're after.

Having said all that don't just take anyones word here for it. Try to get your hands on these units from other people or rentals and try them out on your voice.

...if you're talking "vocals", I'd pass on the UA LA-610...not a very flattering pre IMHO for vocal tracking...save yourself a few dollars and look at the Safe Sound P1 (available from ZenPro Audio)...the P1 was designed by former Neve engineers and is hand built in the UK...
...a preamp/expander/compressor/limiter channel strip that was specifically designed for vocal tracking...sounds great and is virtually "idiot-proof" when it comes to tuning in the right amount of compression...great expander for killing room noise and a very nice warm preamp section capable of driving dynamics as well as ribbon mics...check it out here:

...call Warren at Zenpro ("War" here on HR.com) for more info...he's a great guy and very honest... ;)

wow... you have a U47 and don't have a preamp to go with it??? I might could have understood if it was just the sm57.... just my thoughts.

My thoughts exactly. Here’s the question I would ask: Do you have at least $1000 to spend on a preamp?
If not then I would suggest selling the u47 and buying a less expensive (but still really good) mic or two, and a couple great preamps, and upgrading any other parts of your signal chain that need it, or getting room acoustics treated, better monitors, etc. That is a wonderful mic but you may not be as happy with the results you get if the rest of your setup is lacking in quality.

Having said that, I wouldn’t mind having the “problem” of owning a u47 but needing a preamp to use it with.

In your price range you might also want to consider the True Systems P-Solo. Its a really strong contender.

if you can get your hands on it I would say get the golden age pre. It does an amazing job. Many sites have them but there is a wait on pretty much all of them. Its worth the wait for sure. I think it goes for 299 now which isnt bad for the quality.

I can also recommend the GAP PRE73 as a great sounding preamp.

Golden Age Projects are also releasing a compressor this summer and if it's as good as the PRE73 then this would make an impressive chain!

Quit telling this guy to sell his U47! If he has $1600 to work with he can get a decent pre to go with it.
