Basically I ordered a behringer xenyx 1202 mixer and planned to just plug it straight into a u-control uca222 usb interface but i realised i won't be able to mix seperate tracks with the software this way, but instead it would all be mixed and sent to the software as one track. But the 1202 got delayed for months so i've cancelled it and taken a step back to look at my options for recording.

I want to be able to record drums whilst being able to edit each micropone seperately within the software so I can add plug-in effects instead of outboard effects. How would I go about doing this or would it be just as well having a mixer and using outboard effects instead?

I hope that made some sort of sense because I don't know what i'm talking about but want to know the best way to go about this.

Cheers, EwanC

Look at down loading reaper (free unlimited trial) as your recording software then get some thing along the lines of a tascam US 800.

I've actually already bought reaper haha. I still need to work out how to use the MIDI files properly though. And if I bought a tascam US 800 how would i connect it to my computer. The audio has 2xRCA inputs to connect it via usb. Would that work?

Basically i want a mixer that will let me edit all my individual tracks in the onscreen virtual console as well

No you would come out of that unit via usb into your computer via usb.

And you don't necessarily have to go with that unit. Just google up 6 or 8 channel usb interfaces and there will be many to ponder.

I like the look of the Peavy PV 10 USB. Do you know if the preamps on it will be any good? I would post a link but i'm apparently not allowed until i've posted five times. Awesome -.-

I searched it though and that will only usb a stereo mix from it to your computer.
