Here's the link for anyone else who wants to look.

Protools (avid/digidesign) are notoriously fussy about compatibility of equipment.
They test and verify certain computer systems and publish this on their website.

Now, I never took that to mean that unlisted systems wont work; I took it to mean that you're on your own if it doesn't.
The best thing you can do when buying a PT machine is copy someone else.
See if you can find someone else using that machine with PT.

They do recommend storing sessions on a second drive.
That's easy with a desktop PC. Either add in a second drive for sessions etc, or pick up an SSD for your system drive and use that 2TB one for storage.
80-160gb is often plenty of space for a system drive. It just depends what you do/use.

That aside, why ProTools?
It's probably one of the most expensive and least convenient ways to get into recording.
It's still tied to an ilok, their customer support blows, and it doesn't offer anything that most other DAWs aren't already doing.

If you need compatibility with an other PT user, or you already know it very well then fair enough, but if not I'd reconsider.
For the record, I'm a PT user.

Thanx for the response, i really do not know much about pro tools, i just feel it's one of the best out there..but what do i know? what other software would you recommend, i take it pro tools isn't doing a thumbs up job for you, i might start with fruity loops or audacity just to get around the recording, my issue right now is getting d right system that would serve me well.

Others, far more 'puter savvy than I will hopefully comment but the biggest problem I see with that PC is Win8!
Zillions of words have been bandied about the good and badness of 8 but one thing IS for sure, lots of audio soft and hardware might not work on it yet, if ever (the spectre of Vista still clouds the mind!)

You will not, any longer get a W7 PC from the major suppliers but Google about and you will find them. Dabs Ireland had an i5 for under £400, some might say 4G ram is low but not really unless you want to score the next Pirates!

Dave.

Eugh, I'm happy enough with PT but they're always behind, they're still missing some standard features, I hate iloks.....
I just wouldn't go down that road again.

I (and many other's around here) really like Reaper. Check it out for free and buy it if you like it. It's pretty cheap.

I didn't scrutinise the specs, but my MBP has a 2415m chip and your 2310 chip kills it in benchmark charts.
Like ecc said, unless you're doing some major work, you'll be absolutely fine.

The onboard intel gfx aren't great if you're anyway into gaming. Just a headsup!
