What mikes are 'they' using?

After soaking up tons of excellent info from this site, there is one chunk of information that I have been searching for but cant seem to find in one place. As microphones have become my latest obsession, I find myself looking at all old photos, new photos of live/recording situations trying to figure out what mics are being used.
What I would really like to see is any info that people have on who used what mic on what album old or new just to get an idea of what is being used in the 'bigger' studios.
I realize that there are many variables involved, but just the mic info would be a great asset.
For example I keep hearing that Bono uses 58's for recording.True? what albums, songs?
What the hell mikes does Frank Zappa use on all his albums, especially for those in ya face vocals like...Im the slime
Sarah Maclaughlin for that crystal clear breathy stuff.
The beatles, sting, old zeppelin etc.... anyone at all.

Over at ProSoundWeb, (http://recforums.prosoundweb.com/index.php??SQ=) there's a whole thead about the making of AC/DC's "Back In Black" album.

Several pages later there's some stuff on the making of Widespread Panic's new album, while the archives talk about the old ZZ Top, Stax, and Zep albums. It's one of the few places on the net where a lot of the major guys hang out.
 
Didnt mean to limit it to vocals, I'm also interested in mics for drums, guitar bass etc
