may i ask what the mic in the bottom right hand corner of the picture is? does it have a breakout box with different polarity patterns?

Foreverain4,

It is a Rode NTK (tube mic). It uses an external power supply. Pick-up pattern is cardiod.

I'm cheap and have never had much money(but I got a job now). Plus I'm still a real newbie still. But here's what I got in order of aquirement.

2 SM57
2 ECM8000
1 se.electronics SE1000(free, but I like it sort of on vocals, alot for kick!)
1 AT3035(boy was this a wise purchase!!!)

Everything makes it's way through various crappy cables into the XDR pre's on my Mackie VLZ Pro. Except for two better cables that have a clearer sound to my ears(made by Beldin, with Neutrik ends. any good?). I get pretty good sounds. Most people are blown away with what these mics do, but they aren't experts either.

those XDR pres on the mackie VLZ Pro units are siiick... I've always liked 'em... I need to find a way to get a 1202 or a 1604 VLZ sometime soon hehe

Mic Cab

Presonus Bluetube
Mackie VLZ-Pro
Yamaha O2R Stock Preamps

Rode NT1
Oktava 319
Neumann KMS 105
CAD E-200
CAD E-100 (2)
Shure 737A
Shure SM-81 (2)
Shure SM-58
Shure SM-57 (7)
Shure Beta 52
Sennheiser E602

... nothing to droll over, but they work for me. I still would like a "flagship" vocal mic that could impress vet studio dudes, but these have done the job so far.

Just for jollies, I just checked all 4 pages, and I have to say- It's time we took up a collection. Sennheiser,Wide Awake,Dres,Ihs,Digitmus,Randy Yell,C7sus, and Bowisc don't have an SM57 or 58! Say it's not true!! Could it be the guy with the biggest dick can't get it up? Yes, I know some people really don't like dynamics, and others have some really high end dynamics to die for. Still others, like me, persist in using cheap dynamics that no one but me love (AKG D690), but if you don't have even a single 57 or 58, isn't it like having a hole in your eardrum? I've been reading this board too long, I must not be drinkin' enough...-Richie

I have access to 58/57's and other mics easily, which is why I haven't had to purchase yet.

So you just borrow a dick when you need one?-Richie

I posted this on thread when it started. Since then, now I have TWO Sennheiser MD 441-U's and an antique EV636. The 636 is nice on acoustic guitar, but do't ever try recording a vocal on one.

Take my word for it. No disrespect toward Hank Williams Sr. intended...

One of these days I'm gonna break down and buy a condensor. I promise!
