What mics do you have in your collection?

Thanks for the compliment Harvey. I've been collecting musical instruments and recording equipment for over a quarter of a century, and I never get rid of anything unless it gets fatally damaged. You should check out my collection of musical instruments - well over 60 at last count, and would be more except for some unfortunate cases of theft over the years. I can even play most of them (not WELL, mind you, but at least a recognisable tune/phrase). :D

Mr Zeke... how do you like your Sytek? Wanna sell it? :) Best pre on the list so far except maybe for that Audix 35102
They have the 4 channel Sytek on ebay a lot for $769 buy-it-now, and if any of you are looking, dont be dumbass and spend a hundred dollars less on a crappy 2 channel preamp. Think smart.
I'm tracking it as it makes it's way here via UPS. That's exactly where I bought mine too. What a deal. These eBay auctions are directly by Sytek. They are dealer overstocks, first quality, brand new in the box.

I was looking at a Great River MP-2, but at the price, I couldn't resist. I can't wait to try the Sytek with my two Steven Sank Beyers. I'm shipping my 2480 off tomorrow and ordering my DPS24, so I'll have to wait for the new recorder.

I'm with you on thinking smart. There are some tremendous values out there. The Sytek is one of them. Make your dollars go further, and exercise patience when appropriate. Save up a little if you have to. Good gear bought at a good price doesn't depreciate like crap gear.

Paring my collection down to;
1) Shure SM57 (works well on my voice for rock style material)
2) Shure Beta 57 (bit brighter/hotter than SM57- good for my pop singing)
3) EV Cobalt C09 dynamic (nice clean sound)
4) Sennheiser e835 dynamic (good for bass/contralto singers)
5) Audio-Technica 3527 omni condenser (discontinued-nice sounding)
6) Sennheiser 421 MKII (good backing vocals mike/or for my "ballad" use)
7) Oktava MK-012-01 cardiod condenser (for $60 what the heck!)

If we're playing "I'll show you yours and I'll show you mine"just don't giggle much at me and I'll play.My list is short and pitiful (much like myself) but it gets me through the night.

Mic pres:
M-Audio Audio Buddy
Art Toob MP (pos)
Also two small mixers that I use when I'm recording drums.A Peavy RQ 200 and a Behringer MXB 1002.The Behringer actually sounds pretty good and I think that either of the mixers pres sound better that the Toob MP.The Audio Buddy sounds the best of the bunch though.

Mics:
AKG D880
Nady 7 piece drum mic package
Behringer ECM 8000 (2)
Marshall 2001p (p is for piece of shit)

(1) SM57
(1) SM58 clone. (Mainly used at rehearsels, concerts with miniPA, input for vocoder etc... and substitute kickmic by lack of anything else.)

(1) cheasy cheap speaker connected to XLR. :D Just for experimenting. We'll probably use one of these in our live setup for vocal efx etc....
