Think this is an alternative to the SM Pro Audio Mic Thing?

Think this would benefit cardoid and hypercardoid mics at all?

Looks like someone's anechoic lunchbox. idk, hard for me to imagine whether it will sound natural or not. :confused:
 
Gets me thinking of other creative solutions much cheaper to the Sm Pro Mic Thing and the other one
