What is this effect?/How do I do this?

First off I'm not a huge fan of Crystal Castles, but I am a big fan of the Cure so when I heard this song by CC that features Robert Smith I was pretty stoked.

My question is, what are they using to get that huge synth sound during the chorus? (0:55) I'm guessing they detuned the original line to make it that fat but that's all I've got. Thanks, for reading and if you have any more insight into getting this kind of sound I'd appreciate reading it!

sounds like some really heavy layering but i won't be able to really tell until i get to my headphones (listening from laptop speakers). hmm, there are quite a few patches that can achieve this sound (probably in the Z3TA vst). might want to check that out.
