What is the Tascam M-512 worth?

My band just had our Tascam M-512 shipped to us in California via UPS. UPS managed to damage it pretty badly, despite the fact that is was packaged perfectly. The board literally looks like UPS dropped it on all sides and crushed it with a forklift. So, now begins the damaged claims process.

Anyway, I was hoping that someone could give us more insight on a few things...

1) How much is it worth? (we know it was made in 1979, so it is almost considered a vintage board)

2) Where can we find another if the one we have is not fixable?

3) What would be another board that would be comparable to the Tascam M-512 and possess the same things?

Any help is appreciated!

I saw one for sale on OBO today for $700, but it sounded like it was just in so-so condition.

Hard to say what a good replacement might be, since nobody makes this kind of stuff anymore. I've seen some used 2516's around, which would probably be the closest thing.

serious drag man... btw you can't make the claim... it has to come from the shippers side fwiw...

Actually, you can initially file the claim, but all the paperwork goes to the shipper. Lucky for me my sister-in-law is the shipper.

Thanks for price update. I have seen everything from $150 all the way up to $2099.

Does anyone know when the board actually is deemed "vintage"? I read somewhere that it has to be 30 years....

curious... i've had problems where they wouldn't let me initiate the paperwoprk... oh well... as to vintage... there's no real concensus on what constitutes vintage... it's not like cars where after 25yrs (in most states) you qualify for antique plates...

Well, I hope that I can figure the worth out.

TEAC is located in California close to where I live and the guy I have been in correspondence with said to bring it in. He doesn't think they have the cosmetic parts for our board anymore, but he said they can at least determine what needs to be done to it (if it can be fixed) and then write up a letter for UPS.

It just sucks cause I cannot find another out here in CA anywhere...
