What is the best wireless for a tube amp?

Im looking for a good wireless that can be rack mounted that wont ruin my beautiful tone. All the ones at my local store will ruin my tone. Its almost like they are preamped or something and just wont work for me.

ANy ideas for me? Money is not an issue as long as it maintains my picking dynamics and tone.

What units did you try at the local store? If one of the higher-end Shure or Audio-Technica units isn't up to your standards, then you're going to have to make some decisions about what's most important to you. You will inevitably have some minor loss of "tone"...you can't get around that with wireless systems. However, maybe it's not really a loss, maybe it's just different...perhaps you can work with it.

For instance, I use slight compression in my sound. Most (maybe all?) wireless units apply some form of compression automatically, so when I got my wireless system, I just had to reduce the amount of compression from my pedal.

With any wireless setup, the signal from your guitar must be buffered up with a solid state preamp to feed the transmitter. Whether or not any of them will respond exactly as if you were hard wired directly into your amp... I dunno.

Alot of guys crazy about their tube tone, the big guys such as Neil Young(just off the top of my head ) insist on using cables. Most invest hundreds of dollars in just their lead from their guitar. ideally, the only thing between your guitar output and the first preamp tube should be limited to quality pedals, preferably on distortions, overdrives, wahs, and other things that cant go in the loop. you'll see in such articles like the live rig setup thing in the back of guitar world every month that the older guys in classic rock bands insists that no wireless system can compare to a solid cable.

ANY wireless will ruin your picking dynamics with your tube amp. There is just no way around it. A BIG part of the dynamics of a tube amp is the variable impedence of the pickups, and as soon as you put any kind of a buffer (such as a wireless) between the guitar and the amp you replace that with a completely steady impedence. Say goodbye to the tone, thank you very much.

Sorry, but there is just no way around it, you have to chose; wireless, or tube tone.

That would be a major waste of money. Any good quality cable will do the trick just fine, thank you. Low capacitance cables are great, but the best of those are the George L's, which don't cost nearly that much. They, of course, are not particularly robust, so I would never bother with them personally, and I just use the Spectraflex cables I got when I was in college, which are nearly as low capacitance as the George L's and will survive even when your drummer drops his cymbal on your cable.

They, of course, are not particularly robust, so I would never bother with them personally, and I just use the Spectraflex cables I got when I was in college, which are nearly as low capacitance as the George L's and will survive even when your drummer drops his cymbal on your cable.

Yeah, that is what i thought. I think i will just stick to my cables.

Although......... dont laugh at this band, they are an 80's hair band to most, but to me they are great song writers and excellent performers and musicians. The band is Cinderella. I saw them twice in concert this last summer, and of any concert i have seen EVER, and I have seen just about anyone of any genre, they had the best tone I have ever heard live. They use classic amps and instruments. Marshall JCM800's(custom rodded im sure), All Gibson LP's, Fender teles and strats. They were all wireless, and the tone was amazing. So i must have to have ALOT of money to make that happen live for me in my cover band.

Every now and again i want to jump into the crowd for fun.

oh i hear ya. i would never dream of spending anywhere near even ONE hundred dollars on a single cable. never mind several hundred.

then again, with my crap guitars, and crappier amps, who cares?

I seriously doubt, that with any descent UHF wireless unit, that blindfolded you would be able to tell any difference.
I know you're going to say that you can, but I doubt it.
And these are some of the same people that will put a Boss Metal Zone pedal on their amp. Maybe not you, but their out there.
