Hi. I only have $100 to spend on a microphone. Any suggestions? I am using a Omnistudio USB. It will be mostly used for vocals and acoustic guitar. Possibly for a hand drum like a djembe. I might also use it to mic an amp for a electric guitar or bass, but mostly acoustic and vocals. Any help would be great.

Thanks alot.

I would go with the Behringer B1. It gets a lot of good reviews on this forum.

I dont think the Behriner B1 gets very many good reviews on this forum. I think your talking about the Studio Projects B1.

Which gets my thumbs up on the recommendation.

I've used a sm57 on acoustic guitar, electric guitar amp, small clay hand drums and vocals. It does the job reliably, is extraordinarily easy to use, but I've never preferred the sound on any of these applications over any of my more expensive mics, such as the Sennheiser MD421-II or AT 4040. Vocals especially come out too dead for my tastes through the 57.

The first mics I bought were a behringer B1 and an sm57. The Behringer B1 has been used on very few recordings I've been happy with whereas the 57 has been in nearly every recording I've made since (it's usually on the snare drum now).

If you plan on getting more mics down the road the 57 is your easy choice, especially if you get one used. If you can, try some of those $100 condensors and see what you think.

if you plan on buying just this mic for all your needs, then get the studio projects b1.

if you plan on buying other mics, go with the shure sm57. you won't ever sell it(as opposed to the B1)

Count me in for the SP-B1. It's decent all around.

Never used the SP B1... but i still think the Behringer B1 really shines on vocals, if that's what you're interested in.

I found a RODE NT3 at Guitar Center on clearance for $99. I'm starting to see that was very unusual. But if you see one for that grab it.

SM57....or i5 Audix(very cool)...Condenser....SP B1..or you could save a bit more money and get the SP B# which sounds better (to me) than the B1 and you get patterns which are handy for instrument micing in a room.

I vote for the Electro Voice 635a if you're looking to get more mics in the future and grow a quality mic collection. My second vote is the SM57 with a similar comment about being able to grow a decent mic collection around it.
