I am running Sonar 6 PE and I was wondering what you think the best dithering setting is and why (what charictaristics you like about it).
I am currently working at 24 bit 44.100 sample rate.

thanks

First, you should really only dither when you are reducing the bit rate - say from 24 bits to 16 for recording to CD.

Second, you should only dither once, as the final step before you reduce the bit rate.

Third, without trying to sound like a wise ass, the best dithering option is the one that sounds the best on the music you are working on. :)

Ya... I'm just trying to cheat and have someone tell me if one tends to be brighter than another or darker:D But, if you're going to be difficult I suppose I'll have to dither a song down in every option and see what I can tell;) I just switched over to 24 bit so I have never had to worry about it before.

How about you don't dither at all while working in Sonar?

Just in case their are others who want to know the answer to this Question. Click on the help menu in Sonar & type in Dither. You will see it says Powr-3 is the best & ive found it to sound closer to my original bit depth & Sample rate (24/96) though it requires more from your CPU.If you are mixing down your audio it might just take a little longer to process than the others.
