Just want to know The basic things (fx,eq's "n" stuf) that you do to a track to master it?
Can anyone just tell me the basics? :)

oh man, you should search threads on this topic before everyone digs in. This was the first thing I asked on this board and it wasn't well recieved because it has been asked many times. Good luck and stick around, you'll learn a lot here

there's a bunch of articles about mastering posted here:

They range from real basic intros to in depth analyses of advanced mastering techniques.

St!ff

Thanks for the link StiffMittens. I am an "old newbie", that is, I have been periodically recording my own tunes for years (sometimes as long as 2 years between turning on my preamps :( ) but up until recently have decided to make song writing and recording my full-time hobby. I am currently information starved. I’m looking for guidance on all topics from tracking straight through to mastering.

I just recorded an old rock song I wrote years ago and now I am at the mixing stage.

Your first step to mastering:

DO A SEARCH ON THIS TOPIC HERE. It's been answered only about a hundred times this year. Last week I gave a very exhaustive account of the differences between tracking, mixing and mastering and I suggest that you read the thread.

You should be able to find it by searching for:

mixing mastering difference

Look only in the last 2-3 weeks

I didn't start it

but you need to read all that anyways

Cloneboy,

Thanks alot. I found it. I especially found your compressor settings very helpful. If you know of any ofther places where I can find great info like this, I'd be grateful.

This entire forum is PACKED with info. Do searches on topics and read away. Keep in mind that these are opinions and not all of them are 100% accurate or necessarily what you need to do.

Thanks, I know. I sometimes find it overwheming to sift through all the chatter to get to the "good stuff".

That being said, I have pulled a tremendous amount of helpful information from Home Recording.com. This is my first choice for gaining knowledge from experienced recordists.

Thanks again for your help.

John
