I was reading an old question of mine about mixing bass and vocals and someone suggested ducking the bass.

What is ducking the bass?

Thanks, Steph

using the vocal to trigger a compressor on the bass. it's like an automatic volume control on the bass controlled by the vocal. google sidechaining.

I had to slam on the brakes on the way home from a gig when someone pulled out in front of me.

The bass was not in a case and it flew forward from the back of the car and hit my dashboard. Luckily we heard it sliding and moved our heads.

Thats ducking the bass!

soooooooo very true :p

i didnt know it was just a compressor that does it i thought it was just reducing the volume triggered by an external sorce, i.e. sidechaining
although using a compressor would achieve the same effect! (unless it had auto make up gain)

I thought "Ducking The Bass" was one of those Disney porn movies.
