Hello!

I recently bought the alesis multmix 16USB (http://www.thomann.de/index.html?partner_id=97926&page=thoiw6_artikel-173122.html) from the internet to record drums using my boss BR-900CD multiitrack. (http://www.thomann.de/index.html?partner_id=97926&page=thoiw6_boss_br900 … dinfo.html)

I want to upgrade my multitrack to the Boss BR-1600CD(http://www.thomann.de/index.html?partner_id=97926&page=thoiw6_boss_br160 … dinfo.html) but I noticed in the manual of the Alesis multmix 16USB that it can be used as a sound card also.

Do you think I would be better off buying a good laptop and good recording software (I got cubase light with the mixer!) and using my Alesis multmix 16USB to record onto the laptop thru the USB port? If so what programmes would you recommend and would I need to purchase more equipment to recording? Do I need to buy a good soundcard with the laptop or is the Alesis multmix 16USB all that I need?

Or will I just upgrade to the Boss BR-1600CD?

I suppose the pros and cons to both but I just wondering what I am better off doing!!

PS check out what i have done so far at www.myspace.com/pallussinfony! ta!

its obviously a subjective matter but i would say that most people who take recording seriously would probably go the computer route, though probably not with a laptop.

Then there are those of us who are sadly lacking in computer know how,,, and MUCH prefer the standalone daw.

I think it simply comes down to your preference. What you're comfortable with. Great sounds can be achieved by both. From what I've read from the knowledgeable ones tho...probably not a laptop.

Just one computer doof's opinion,,,

Comp based here too,

you can upgrade the pc in the long run ,get dual monitors ,have a fat choice of soundcards and a controll serfaces.

Sky is the limit :)
