do u eq 1st then compres r compress 1st then eq. wat exactly is mastering

In general, EQ before compression to remove noise and other stuff that the compressor might otherwise undesirably boost, and then EQ after compression to tweak or sweeten the resulting sound.

G.

P.S. Your text could use a litlle less compression ;) :D

And mastering is stuff that we newbies should *never* attempt ;)

Mastering is all the polishing, eq'ing and levelling that gets done to the final mix by the people with the golden ears and the gear. We pay them to do this because they have the skills and can usually somehow manage to polish a turd :p

Was this thread submitted via text message?

Just curious.

I really don't get the "shorthand" typing thing...

Usually you would EQ before you compress. If there are any unwanted bleed or frequencies, the compressor might be boosting those.

Try it out and see what sounds best for you. It will sound very different with the EQ first and then compressor, and vice versa.

What is best? To crush your enemies before you and to hear the lamentation of their women.

Hi

On mastering, it's worth while trying it just to learn what its is, and what is done to prepare a track for production, however if you value your tracks I would recommend getting it done by a pro. It's far better if you can attend the mastering section but many don't.

it's fairly common in indie world to master your own tracks for internet release, but if you are going to Cd, go pro.

Cheers

John

If you're taking a crack at mastering, it's also a good idea to work on *someone else's* mixes... You'll learn nothing working on your own (you already mixed it, why would you change anything?).

WTF!!!!!!!!!!????????is this english??

I dont like it when people are too lazy to type the entire word. Sounds like a High School text message.

It's probably harder to construct a sentance looking for the verbal short cuts than it would be to just type english. I just don't get the whole "thug" thing. Talk about setting the bar low.

I am [ this ] close to saying goodbye to this board permanently.

who needs racist motherfuckers asking ridiculous questions under false user names anyway? what a waste of everyone's time. this BBS really has gone to all hell. its practically worthless.

If you never attempt it, you'll never learn it.

Granted, and I do, to some extent, attempt some 'mastering' for friends (eq adjustment and overall volume of tracks, mainly) which they have been pretty happy with.

But there's no way I'd consider my gear up to the job or my skills anything close to what is needed for professional mastering.

I think Tom Ridge came up with that when he was head of homeland security.
