I heard what this is and seen one on the musicians friend website, but what does it do? Does Sonar 6 have one as a plugin or would I have to purchase a plugin that is combined with other processors? Anyone shed some lite on this for me?

I'm sorry, but I know nothing about Sonar. I can shed some light regarding the de-esser, however.

Basically a de-esser is a device used for reducing or eliminating the extra "sibilance" in something. How it works... it takes the signal you send to it, such as your voice, and splits it into two sides... one with the part of the signal you want to keep, and one with the part of the signal you want to remove (the sibilance). Then it applies compression to the part being removed. It's kind of late... did I just make any sense at all?

Its basically a compressor side chained with an eq. So everytime a certain defined frequency passes the threshhold, it gets compressed, lowered or cut off, what ever you set it to do.

or to be more simplistic

it is what it sounds like it gets rid of the extra "sss" and all that good shit you may want to remove.......
