Ok, instead of a snake, since I haven't really gotten many suggestions and where I live they would be hard to purchase, would I be better off using long cables? Basically my situation is: My drums are downstairs, and I'm up here (now, we're not floors apart, I'm just on a higher level) with my mixer etc etc etc. To record drums could I just use long cable runs from my board to the mics? Or would that cause some crappy sound?

How are a bunch of cables different from a snake? A snake is just a bunch of those long cables all tied together.

Balanced cabling is the key ... might be better if you have the mixer/pres downstairs and send the hotter line level down a balanced line to your recorder. But that's not essential, you should be fine either way.

I know it's basically the same thing, but I thought maybe if I just got a bunch of cables it wouldn't work as well, like I wouldn't get as good a signal or whatever. I think I'll just go this route 'cause it'll probably save me some cash and it's easier. Thanks.
