I'm mixing down to a JVC deck, granted I know it's not that great quality but it's what I got. the problem is that when i mixdown and set my levels the meters and my ears tell me one thing. but when i play back the Right channel is boosed ever so slightly. I try to compensate, but sometimes it dosen't seem to do it and i end up with a stronger left channel. I'v replaced my cabels and cleaned my heads and nothings different. Is is a matter of maybe the jacks or is it completly internal? I'd like to buy a new deck but i need better mics first. Is ther something i could try in the meantime?

Make sure that you at least assign the blame properly. My SONY receiver started pulling that crap on me and I thought one of my monitors was going bad. After replacing the speaker wire with brand new monster cable cut to the exact same length; same thing. SO I swapped left and right wires to the speakers and whaddaya know- it was the amp.

He Who Is James:

In addition to the above advice, try this:

Mix down your cut and do all the "tweaking" while listening to it on the monitors. The headset is a nice medium - too good in fact. I've found I get more of what I'm after by using my ears UNCOVERED and setting all the tweaks via the monitors which, in my case, are Alesis Monitor Ones backed by a set of infinity speakers. Try mixing this way for one of your cuts. Keep twiddling the dials.
