You can use this with your guitar, but you need a special pickup, called a hexaphonic pickup. Roland makes a similar system (GR20 or something like that) but I think it is more. From what I hear they are pretty sweet, I would like to get one, but no cash right now. But yeah, you use it to trigger midi (for guitar and bass tracks, mostly).

This (and the AX100) is the fastest guitar-to-midi interface there is (and therefor, the best one). You need a hexaphonic pickup like Ripthorn mentioned. This is basicly a small pickup with a 13-wire cable, that sends a signal for every string. The AX50 takes these 6 signals and analyses the pitch of each, outputting midi notes. The problem with this is that it takes a bit of time to analyse the pitch, so the midi note is always a tiny bit late, but this is pretty much the first system where it is neglectable.

In other words, BUY IT :D

The company that makes that thing also makes the pickup you need.

There are also bridges that have these pickups built in, but i can't remember who makes them.

Another company that makes hexaphonic pickups is called shadow I think. They have a model called the sh-075 or something like that.

Alternative MIDI application

PC Magazine editor, Bill Machrone, is also a guitar enthusiast. He did this article not too long ago, on "How to add USB to your guitar".

I happened to have bought one of those inexpensive, but not bad electric guitars (mine an SX Ibanez copy) from www.rondomusic.com .

Machrone did his article on his SX (Telecaster copy), with great instructions and photos.

Of course, with USB transmission from your guitar, you can drive additional and other type MIDI equipment. Don't limit yourself! :)
