Hello there people of HR, I have a very simple yet requires much thought question. What kind of headphones should I actually be going for if I am to use it for monitoring my microphone sounds and gives me a very detailed sound of whatever I am hearing? Any answers for me will be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Darren.

Hey Darren.

For tracking, two things are important to me.
Isolation and comfort.

I'm using Sennheiser HD280s at the minute and love them.
I wouldn't mix on cans, but at the same time they do sound great to me.

That is one impressive and quick reply! I really appreciate it, Steenamaroo. I have already taken it into consideration, hope to receive more comments on what people would prefer and the "important stuff". Thanks a bunch!

Cheers,
Darren.

For monitoring live I use the Sennheiser HD 25-1 (closed)

For editing and mastering I use the Sennheiser HD 800 (open)

AKG K240's are about the same price and quality as the Senn HD280s. I've never had the senns but I do have 2 sets of the k240's and they sound great to me.

I use HD280s. They have something like 32dB of external sound reduction, which enables me to hear my guitar amp through the headphones, without hearing too much in the room, so I can get mic placement right.

Oh, and they sound great.

ooh I want some of those. I have a pair of the HD 600s which are great and I actually have two pairs of the HD580s (also great) but I understand the 800s are quite a step up if that's possible.
I use a Headroom headphone amp which I also love but it's not needed for studio use I guess.

I have the DT 770 pro 250 ohms...great isolation and pretty decent detail...better than my monitors

Be careful buying from ebay, lots of fakes...try to buy only from authorised dealer

Thank you all for your opinions! I think I'm definately going to check the Sennheiser HD280 as many people in HR seems to recommend it. I will also take note of the rest, thanks!

Cheers,
Darren.

Another vote for HD280s.

I used to use Shure SRH440s. These just destroy them in every way. :D

What, headphones?
For tracking I use MoreMe - the version with the mono/stereo switch.
For tracking very loud guitars I use a pair of earbuds inside ear good quality protection muffs also from Harvey Gerst.
Monitoring others? I use my Sennheiser HD515s if I'm not near the mic but if I am I use what ever is at hand that is closed back.
