What hardware with cubase?

I used to use cubase system 4 for recording at home but now need to buy cubase 5 to record the band. What is the most cost affective way of doing this? The yamaha hardware steinberg sell is very expensive. Is there an affordable alternative that would allow 8 track minimum recording that works well with cubase 5?

cubase works with virtually any multi input/channel interface. i personally use cubase 5 with a presonus firestudio 26x26 with a digimax fs giving me 16 class a preamps.
