I'm in a band, and we want to start recording some of our music. I decided that using my computer, as opposed to one of those all in one workstation type things, would be best. This is because I already have a decent computer. 700 mHZ, 20 gig harddrive, and a Soundblaster Live! soundcard. I also have a copy of Cakewalk Pro 9.
We'll need to record drums, guitar, bass, and vocals. Right now we only have one mic. My question is what hardware or software other then what I have will we need to purchase in order to start recording and mixing. I assume I'll need a mixer/preamp of some sort so that i can get the music onto the computer. Any suggestions? We're trying to keep this as inexpensive as possible. Will I need more then one mic, or can we just record one track at a time and then mix them together with cakewlk later? Will we loose the "live" feel, or is that totally an opinion thing? Do most bands record all together, or do one track at a time? Also, will I need to buy monitor speakers, or can I just hook it up to play through a stereo or headphones?
Finally: Is the equipment I have usable? I have a Soundblaster Live! soundcard, which I think has only one line-in input. Also, is my CAD 22-A mic good enough to give us a decent sound, or will i have to upgrade that as well. Thankis for all the help.
