What goes well with RME Fireface 800 on a new PC?

I'm not sure things will specifically compliment the fireface (perhaps you could do something given their clean converters), its mainly just quality gear. Something my "recording mentor" told me was to buy the level you need, not what will do at the time. This sadly usually means waiting a bit longer, but you'll save tons of money in the long run. So perhaps if you could let us know some more details, like what equipment you already have besides the fireface, and what the budget is. By the way, I own a fireface as well, and I love it

Thans for your reply nocarsgo! Telling the truth I don't have anything right now - I'm just doing LOTS of research and figuring things out. I don't wanna make a stupid mistake.... like buying some nice mics with a shitty interface!

I have around $3000-4000 to spend right now (+ an additional $2000-3000 pretty soon).

I figured that an audio interface is at the heart of the set up and choosing a reliable one (with good quality) is more important than just about anything else. That's how I got interested in RME 800.

However, I learned recently about RME's new UFX interface and I'm probably gonna get the UFX ($2099).

It doesn't change anything about this thread though. I'm wondering what else should I get along with RME FF800/UFX. Most of the time I'm gonna be reconding some pop/rock songs, folk, and classical stuff (small groups).

I have to disagree with this train of thought. Quality of your mixes will be more dependent on other factors before the converters come into play. Things like your room (tracking and mixing) and monitors, the mics and mic pre's. These all play a bigger part of a good sound than the converters. I have a phonic firewire mixer and the Lavry Black series, two samples from the extremely opposite ends of the price sprectrum, and while there is a difference, it isn't earth shattering.

Concentrate first on your listening environment (monitors and room) and your mic and mic pre's. This will give you the biggest bang for the buck. The converter/interface is secondary to all these things.
