Just put a new tune up,and need some input on the intro for one thing..and the mix, would like your thoughts on what genre of music you think this is...I put it in Hard Rock but I just dont know it sounds kinda Pop too. The MP3 isn't up yet (like anyone's going to download 5 1/2 mb yeah)but you can stream it if you will. Equipment list is: Electric drums(yuk)I know, crappy ass acc guitar(not telling what kind:D)rhythm & lead guitars played thru Laney 50 watt tube miked with AT 40/50, keyboards Dx7, Vocals 40/50, recorded on adat used lynx 24bit sound card to load it up into wavelab applied de-noiser,peakmaster,and loudness Maximizer. The song is called "Vision of Love" and it is at http://www.garageband.com/artist/DavetheButcher
Thanks in advance for any thoughts and input anyone can offer...Dave

I would say hard rock is probably the best place to put it, but it's hard to stick it into only one genre. If those distorted guitars weren't in there, then it would be more pop like you mentioned. A darker kind of pop, but I think that's a very good thing. I still say you write songs that are as good as anything that came out of the hard rock of the late 80s, without sounding dated. It actually sounds better than most stuff I've streamed, so I'm interested to here it in MP3 form before commenting on the mix at all. One thing that caught my attention is I'm not so sure I like the ending, but just my opinion. Intro fits the song just fine. I really like the lead licks that build behind certain parts of the verses, and from what I can tell from the streamed version the guitar tone sounds very good. Great playing as always. Get that MP3 up there so I can hear the mix. :)

Good stuff...hard rock...like Jon X said, the distorted guitars tend to put that in mind, and even though the drums weren't "live", the way they were done contributed to nailing the genre.....enjoyed listening....gibs

Darn, it won't stream for me, Windows wants either an update CD or it downloads a file with no extension...

When will the mp3 version be available?

Jon X..hey thanks for the kind words man, means a lot. And yeah I'll have to agree on the ending myself I dont like it much either, just dont know what to do about it yet. I dunno I think all my stuff is "out dated" being born in 59 I guess I'm pretty much out dated myself:D. Thanks again for the listen and input. can't wait to hear that tune of your's when ya get throuh with it.

gibs..Thanks for listening man and glad you enjoyed it.

Emeric..The MP3 is up, but you have to click on the title and it takes you to the page.

I got the .mp3 yesterday.....
Pretty damn thumpy. I'd have to call it pop on that point.
I'm a fan of this particular genre of pop. Whitesnake, Dio, Bon Jovi.
The lead guitar needs to come up in places. The bass needs to get out of the way of that thumping drum track. The vocals are about as in-yer-face as they need to be. I'd love to hear a quiet part with just an acoustic guitar doing a tasty arpeggiated repetition of some section. Like that Em7/d/c section. Then add the bass for a rep or two.
Then add back the thump. With the screaming guitar leads.

I downloaded the rest of your stuff. I'm almost sure I've reviewed those before..... Still like 'em.

Thank you for D/L this doc...before I put the distorted guitars in there it kinda reminded me of being in the pop vein of some what. Like Jon X said kinda "dark pop"ha! Say the bass needs to get out of the way of the drum track? I expected as much..I mixed this thing at my home this week in my bedroom of all places, and thought I had a listenable mix going on until yesterday I took it back out to the studio and man it sounded terrible.

Like your idea's for the EM7/d/c section, yeah that just might work there. Thanks for script doc! Been meaning to listen to your latest masterpiece I'll d/L it sometime today and give it a spin! Thanks...

David,

I checked the genres on garage band and this song seemed appropriate for 'Rock'. Not Hard Rock or Pop Rock. This is my opinion. The solo around 3:15 was really good. Good sound on the guitar and a lotta style, well played. I like the tune.
