Hi, I've never owned a MIDI controller but am looking to purchase a cheap one - just to get me started. Mostly, I'm debating between the Akai Pro MPK mini and the Akai Pro LPK25. (I wanted to post the URL's, but I have to have five posts first - sorry)!
Would the pads and knobs on the MPK mini be helpful for me? What exactly can I do with them? For example, I'm assuming you can map samples to each of the pads, then when I hit them my sample plays (while plugged into my laptop)? Is that something that musicians normally do in a live setting?
Also, please recommend other budget MIDI controllers! $150 would probably be my max. Thanks for the help!
