How many channels can i get through the optical input ?
How many channels can i get with the S/PDIF connection ?

if i buy an 8-Channels A/D converter, how exactly i'm going to get those 8-channels in the computer?

Thanks.

(1) 2. Assuming we're talking about a standard optical (TosLINK) input.

(2) 2. S/PDIF coax is also a single stereo input (or 5.1 AC3 in some cases).

(3) You need an eight-channel interface. If the 8-channel converter you're looking at has an interface to the PC, there you go.

Also remember not all 8 Channel converters have preamps which are needed for every input.....

what might be the cheapest way to get 8 Channels to your PC with preamps is to get a Sound card or interface that has just a simple ADAT input/output and then get something like a ADA8000 which is a 8 channel Preamp with AD/DA Converters and connects to your PC Via ADAT interface and the ADA8000 is only about $200 and an ADAT card can go as low as $50 and with 2 ADA8000 you get 16 Preamps and Inputs....

The only problem with the ADA8000 is that it is "Behringer" gear which doesn"t have the Best reputation but this Particular Piece of equipment is regarded as one of the Best Pieces of equipment Behringer makes and a Bargain for what it does....

The Preamps aren"t that Good but if you keep the Gain below about 75% then the Preamps are pretty clean and clear..... There are probably some mods you can do the ADA8000 that can improove it"s sound quality if you are electronicly inclined....

Cheers

I have an E-MU 1212m and a Behringer ADA8000.
With Audition 2.0 I can record 8 tracks at once.
