Seriously though, this is why people were telling you that you could have gotten better stuff for your money, these package deals aren't necessarily made for the discriminating buyer. if you haven't actually bought this stuff yet, keep reading and researching and you will find other good options that will pay off for you int he long run.

Also, don't mind the angry and sarcastic comments, even when they are accurate-- you will still get lots of help here.

Hey dude, while I agree is was quite foolish for you to have bought a 1900 dollar package deal that you only need about 25% of, I'm not going to give you too hard of a time for it simply because this is the noobie forum. However, the bullshit lines about calling around to studios and things is pretty rediculous. You won't get any respect from anybody by spitting out shit like that. Nobody would have suggested most of the stuff in that package to someone who wants to record rap music. If you want some legitimate help around here, just ask for it. But try to cut the bullshit.

Well, I for one was not criticizing anything about the guy except for his obvious bullshit story about the studio referrals for all of his gear. That is rediculous. Besides, if he had friends in studios that directed him to all that gear, then what would he have to ask us? I noticed that line too! I have a homie who plays guitar, but he doesn't have any picks or strings, so I figured I'd pick some up for him!

My thoughts are is if someone can blow $1900 without doing any research or having any experience has too much money for their own good.

okay... im gonna not keep up with the synicism.
what i havew heard is for rappers a couple of dynamics are good to have, some people like having a microphone in thier hand, its what they are used to, will feel comfortasble with and will make good music with. Also if your serious about this, treat your room acoustics.

Work on a piece or two and share it with us so we can better understand where you stand with your recording/mixing ability. From there we can give you tips, advice, etc. Also, I noticed you didn't mention how your were planning on creating beats - do you already have something to tackle this?

lil lo, I'd suggest that the only things on your list of gear that aren't probably going to be very useful are the Nady mic's and the BBE maximizer. Vocal mic's are very user specific, so you might luck out and have the MXL 992 work for you, but don't count on it. For vocal mic's you've just got to try them - in a store, in a studio, or rented. The Studio Projects B1, the MXL V67G, the Sure SM57 would be other possibilities.

The other thing that comes to mind is the acoustics of the room you'll be setting up in. It's critical for both recording quality and monitoring effectively. Generally, bigger is better and less reflective is better. Lots of info around here, if you use the search button, on monitoring setup and acoustic treatment of rooms.

Also, later when you get used to tracking on the Tascam multitrack you may want to transfer files to the computer for processing. That allows you to use the many hundreds of free processing plugins available online (compressors, limiters, reverb, delays, EQ's, etc.) that may give you more variety than what's built into the Tascam. N-Track is a good software recorder/processing app. Its demo is free, fully functional and has no time limit.
